Comsis introduce a development platform for 4G/Wi-Fi gateways

June 10, 2013 – Comsis introduce a development platform for 4G/Wi-Fi gateways.

Comsis just announced the commercial introduction of a development platform for 4G/Wi-Fi gateway applications. The new platform permits the evaluation, development and field deployment of Wi-Fi access points connected to the Internet infrastructure through an high-performance 4th generation mobile wireless network (a.k.a “4G”).

The 4G/Wi-Fi Gateway has a CPU-centric architecture built around an Intel Atom chipset running a Linux distribution. Beside driving the 4G and Wi-Fi interfaces, the software implements the network protocol stacks, the routing between the 4G and Wi-Fi subnets, firewalling rules, and local services. The overall system can be administered remotely through a secure ssh console. The Wi-Fi is also bridged with a Gigabit Ethernet port to allow the connection of a wired network.

In its default configuration, the 4G interface has the following features:

• 4G LTE FDD 800/1600/2600 MHz

• 3G HSDPA/HSUPA/UMTS/WCDMA 900/1800/2100 MHz

• GSM/GPRS/EDGE

The embedded Wi-Fi access point complies with the IEEE802.11n standard and provides a WLAN connectivity of up to 150 Mbps in the 2.4 GHz ISM band.

The development platform for 4G/Wi-Fi Gateway benefits from a modular design. Especially, the 4G and Wi-Fi interfaces can be customized to address application requirements which differ from the default configuration in terms of frequency bands or access mode.
